Who We Are

Rick and Trish were married in 1996 and have stayed busy ever since. Besides raising cattle and ranching they have built a successful mixed animal veterinary practice.

Rick graduated from the Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. His first job as a veterinarian took him and his Shorthorn cattle to Creighton, Nebraska. When his parent’s Colorado Springs home was condemned for airport expansion in 1990, Rick and his cattle moved back to Colorado and he partnered with his parents John and Virginia to start Peak View Ranch in Fowler.
Trish grew up in a well travelled U.S. Air Force family until she settled in Black Forest, Colorado and started a horse training business. She is a 1988 double graduate of both the University of Missouri-Columbia where she received a BS in Animal Science and Stephen’s College which awarded her a BS in Equestrian Science.
Family and Business
Once married, they opened Peak View Animal Hospital which serves a large part of southeast Colorado. Rick is the primary veterinarian and practice manager while Trish works in the office, does the bookkeeping, and assists as needed.
Daughter Gabriella, 19, is a freshman at Kansas State University in Manhattan where she is majoring in Animal Science with interests in Beef Genetics & Nutrition. She is busy competing on the KSU Wool Judging Team and serving on the American Shorthorn Association Junior Board. She is passionate about her Shorthorn and Shorthorn Plus cattle and she loves showing. Gabri can be found at Peak View during college breaks and summers working the front desk or “teaching” for the veterinarians.

Richard Valentino, “Val”, is a sophomore at Fowler H.S. this year where he plays basketball, baseball and competes on the Speech Team. Val’s greatest love is basketball and he has extended that season by joining the PLUTO travel team based out of Colorado Springs. Val is in his 9th year of 4-H and has raised and shown his pigs all those years. He also shows cattle with the family and has his own set of Shorthorn cows. He is great help on the ranch and will be in the clinic this year learning to assist the staff.

Rick is the current President of the American Shorthorn Association. He completed two terms with the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine where he also served as President. He has been very active with the area 4-H program, the livestock judging program, the FFA veterinary science program and he loves to judge a show or two each summer. Trish is also very involved in the community. She serves as a 4-H leader, a substitute teacher, a volunteer coach for the 4-H and FFA horse judging program. Trish loves to show her horses as time allows and hike with her Australian Cattle Dog Roxie.
